A World Of Your OwnEvery character has a World. These are unique spaces that represent your character's mental state and theme.
Inside these rooms are big, magical places. It can look however you'd like. It can break the rules of gravity and logic. Walking on clouds? Sure! Breathing water? Go for it! Simply put: When a Khroma is created, so is their world. The two are connected, with the world always reflecting the Khroma's true self and mental state. Worlds are heavily symbolic and traveling 'deeper' into the world will reveal more about you. |
...Even your worst flaws.
Most importantly, each world has a problem to overcome. This challenges your Khroma, encouraging positive character development. Your character's internal conflicts have become physical! Going deeper into the world will peel back layers of your character's psyche and discover more of the issue.
Writers can use these as side arcs alongside the story's main plot. You can style and pace them to fit your preferences. It may take a few chapters to complete. |
Deeper levels can have puzzles within them—Like exploring the darkest corners of one's mind. A Khroma's theme plays into the visuals of their world. Themes don't need to be the main aesthetic of the world, but it can help piece together your ideas! You're free to add symbolism for meanings and flaws as well! Bubbles bursting for joy! Walking through fire for rage!
About Flaws . . .
Say your Khroma is a singer. The world conflict could be something like this: "The mannequins in [X]'s room ask more and more of her after each performance. She tells herself that they're right. Something is always missing, no matter how hard she tries. If she was true to her heart, she'd realize that — She can't seem to piece the problem together herself."
The internal problem is always being so critical of oneself. Once this Khroma decides to love themselves and their creations wholeheartedly, you can conclude the arc with a grand happy performance. |
Wahoo! They've become happier with themselves! However, there's lingering darkness in their heart. Once your Khroma has overcome their worlds problem, they're able to face the true horrors of their inner selves—their flaws.
A Flawed Beast takes over the darkest corners of a Khroma's world. They must defeat it to become their true self. Say their Flaw is greed, the beast may be themed after gold or kings or riches. Once a Khroma defeats their Flaw, it doesn't disappear. |
Thanks to the positive traits they gain after the battle, a Khroma becomes more resistant to their flaw! For example, Greed. A Khroma may become more generous (generosity counteracts greed)! Other bonuses are a new Portrait, replacement of your flawed ability, and general resistance to despair! Basically, a massive power boost as a reward!
By the way, you can fight your Flawed Beast once.
You win or... you lose.
And you don't ever, ever, want to lose.
But hey! You can pick when you want to fight the Flawed Beast! You don't have to fight it at all, even!
